Atkinson Pontifex is a people-first construction atelier, bringing together over four decades of craftsmanship, technical expertise and a considered approach to building homes shaped around how people truly live.
FOUNDED IN 1986
The business was founded in 1986 by Dean Atkinson and David Pontifex — two craftsmen whose friendship began in kindergarten and was later strengthened through a shared trade as qualified carpenters and joiners. What started as a mutual passion for creating, problem-solving and doing things properly has, in the decades since, grown into one of Bayside's most trusted names in residential construction, without ever losing the hands-on, quietly meticulous approach that defined it from day one.
THE TEAM
Since 2016, Sam, Pat and Carmen have worked closely within the business, bringing new technical expertise, digital capability and contemporary ways of delivering projects, while learning alongside Dean and David's decades of experience.
In 2025, this long-standing collaboration formally evolved into a five-director team, combining traditional craftsmanship and old-school work ethic with modern technology, structured project delivery and fresh thinking. It means every project we take on is approached with both clarity and confidence, shaped by perspectives that span the full life of a build.
BUILT WITH CARE
Our projects are highly technical, highly resolved and deeply collaborative, from early design input through to final delivery. We work closely alongside architects, interior designers, landscape architects and lighting consultants to help bring ambitious ideas to life with precision. Our business has, in turn, grown through long-term relationships with local architects, designers, consultants and clients who value that same level of detail, collaboration and trust.
Beyond the finished product, we place equal importance on the experience of getting there. As custodians of the process, we translate complexity into clarity, align every moving part, and ensure each decision — large or small — is made with care and intent. The result is not only a beautifully built home and garden, but a building experience that feels considered, clear and well-resolved from the first conversation through to handover.
